This is what you get
- One capsule a day: you swallow it whole with a little liquid, and that is the whole routine.
- 12 strains in one capsule: five bifidobacteria, six lactobacilli and Streptococcus thermophilus, about 1 billion cultures in total.
- Three parts in one capsule: fibre (FOS), live cultures and a tyndallised postbiotic (Prolac-T™), which LR calls the TRIPLEBIOTIC complex.
- A capsule inside a capsule: according to LR, the double encapsulation is meant to bring the complex intact into the gut.
- No fridge needed: store it dry at room temperature and close the pot well.
Do you find bacterial culture supplements confusing?
Search for cultures in capsule form and you will find a wall of products. Some list one strain, others twenty. Some quote millions, others hundreds of billions. Terms such as prebiotic and postbiotic appear on the labels with little explanation. It is no surprise that many people give up and simply buy whatever is on offer.
PRO 12 + is LR’s attempt to keep the choice clear. Every capsule contains the same three components, and LR lists each of the 12 strains with its own count, so you know exactly what you are taking. There is one dose a day, the capsules stay out of the fridge, and a pot covers a month.
LR places PRO 12 + alongside other products from its range that you might combine it with, such as Liver Support, Pro Balance and Colostrum.
What exactly is a “triplebiotic”?
TRIPLEBIOTIC is LR’s name for the combination of three ingredient types in one capsule:
- Fibre (prebiotic part): 150 mg of fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a dietary fibre that makes up 26% of the capsule contents. LR includes it so the cultures feel at home.
- Live cultures: 12 strains with about 1 billion bacteria per capsule in total.
- Postbiotic part: 100 mg of tyndallised Lactobacillus acidophilus, a patented ingredient called Prolac-T™. Tyndallised means the bacteria have been heat-treated, so this part does not contain live cultures.
The double encapsulation is the fourth element of the idea. The outer capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), a plant-based material, and LR says the design is meant to bring the complex into the gut intact.
What’s in one capsule?
| Strain or ingredient | Per capsule |
|---|---|
| Bifidobacterium longum | 96 million CFU (9.6 × 107) |
| Bifidobacterium breve | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Bifidobacterium bifidum | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Bifidobacterium infantis | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Bifidobacterium lactis | 110 million CFU (1.1 × 108) |
| Lactobacillus plantarum | 110 million CFU (1.1 × 108) |
| Lactobacillus casei | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Lactobacillus paracasei | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Lactobacillus rhamnosus | 110 million CFU (1.1 × 108) |
| Lactobacillus acidophilus | 76 million CFU (7.6 × 107) |
| Lactobacillus bulgaricus | 0.96 million CFU (9.6 × 105) |
| Streptococcus thermophilus | 110 million CFU (1.1 × 108) |
| Lactobacillus acidophilus, tyndallised (Prolac-T™) | 100 mg |
| Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) | 150 mg |
CFU stands for colony-forming units, the standard way of counting live cultures. The twelve counts add up to roughly 1 billion per capsule, which matches LR’s figure. The capsule also contains maize starch, maltodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium salts of fatty acids as an anti-caking agent.
How does it fit into your day?
- Take one capsule a day and swallow it whole with a little liquid.
- Tie it to something you do every day, such as your morning glass of water, so you do not forget it.
- Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
- Store the pot dry at room temperature and close it well after opening.

Is there anything to watch out for?
- Traces of lactose and soy: the capsules may contain traces of both, which matters if you need to avoid either.
- Vegetarian capsule shell: the shell is made from plant-based HPMC. LR does not state whether the whole product is vegan.
- Are you pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical care? Ask your GP or pharmacist before you start.
- Keep it out of reach of small children.
What do people ask about it?
How many bacteria are in one capsule?
About 1 billion, spread across 12 strains. The table above shows the count for each strain.
What is a postbiotic?
In PRO 12 +, it is Lactobacillus acidophilus that has been tyndallised, which means heat-treated. LR uses the patented ingredient Prolac-T™, 100 mg per capsule.
Do the capsules need to go in the fridge?
No. LR says to store them dry at room temperature and to close the pot well after opening.
What is the difference between PRO 12 + and Pro Balance?
They are quite different products. PRO 12 + contains bacterial cultures and fibre, while Pro Balance is a mineral tablet with magnesium, calcium and potassium. LR mentions them together, and you can take both.
