How do you know that what you are buying is any good? Labels promise a lot, and most of us can’t check what is really inside a bottle or tub. That is why independent seals matter: an outside institute tests the product regularly, and the manufacturer cannot decide the result. This page explains, in plain English, which seals you will see on the LR products on this site, who awards them and what each one actually tells you.
Here is the short answer
- SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS: it regularly and independently checks the aloe vera drinking gels, colostrum and Mind Master, according to LR also through covert test purchases.
- IASC: this is the aloe vera industry’s own certification, with audits and lab tests, and it is renewed every year.
- Kölner Liste®: a specialist lab tests the products for doping substances. This matters for the drinking gels, Mind Master and Protein Power.
- Dermatest: skincare is tested dermatologically on volunteers.
- Friend of the Sea, Vegan, organic extracts and Made in Germany tell you about sourcing, ingredients and production.
SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS: is it really what the label says?
SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS is one of the best-known testing institutes in Germany. Its quality seal stands for regular, neutral and independent checks rather than a one-off test. Before a product can carry the seal it goes through extensive preliminary testing, from raw materials to the finished product and filling. In plain terms: it is not LR saying the quality is right, but an external laboratory checking it again and again.
| Products on this site | What the seal means for you |
|---|---|
| All five Aloe Vera Drinking Gels | According to LR, the seal confirms high product quality from pure aloe vera leaf gel, gentle processing and high production standards. |
| Colostrum Liquid and Colostrum Capsules | LR uses colostrum from European cows only, adds nothing to the liquid and has processing and the finished product checked independently. According to LR, these were the first colostrum products on the market with this seal. |
| Mind Master Formula Red and Gold | According to LR, the institute checks them regularly and also makes covert test purchases, buying the product just as you would. |
IASC: is there real aloe vera in it?
The International Aloe Science Council (IASC) is the international organisation of the aloe vera industry. It certifies whether a product really contains the aloe quality it claims. That involves audits of production sites and laboratory analyses, including checks for typical aloe components such as polysaccharides and for contaminants. Products have to be recertified every year and production sites every three years.
On this site the IASC seal appears on the Aloe Vera Drinking Gels and Mind Master, and on the Relaxing Thermo Lotion, the MSM Body Gel and the Extra Fresh Tooth Gel. According to LR, for the drinking gels the seal also confirms sustainable cultivation of the aloe in Mexico.
Kölner Liste®: is it safe for tested athletes?
The Kölner Liste® (Cologne List) lists food supplements that a laboratory specialising in supplement analysis has tested for doping substances, in particular anabolic steroids and stimulants. For anyone who competes in tested sport this is an important reassurance; for everyone else it is a further sign of clean production. Listed products on this site are the Aloe Vera Drinking Gels, Mind Master Red and Gold, and Protein Power. You can check the current status of any product at koelnerliste.com.
Dermatest: how does my skin get on with it?
With skincare, what matters most is how your skin tolerates a product. Dermatest is an independent German institute that tests cosmetics dermatologically on volunteers. According to LR, Aloe Via products with aloe vera gel and fermented aloe that were tested received the five-star “very good” Dermatest seal. Each product page on this site shows which seals that particular product carries.
Friend of the Sea: where does the fish oil come from?
Friend of the Sea certifies fish and fish oil from sustainable fisheries. Super Omega Capsules use oil from wild-caught anchovies, sardines and mackerel, and fishing and processing are certified as sustainable, which protects fish stocks and the marine environment.
Vegan: does it contain animal ingredients?
The vegan label means the product contains no ingredients of animal origin. On this site it applies to Mind Master Formula Gold and Reishi Plus Capsules.
Organic extracts: where do the plant ingredients come from?
Several Aloe Via products contain extracts from certified organic cultivation, according to LR, for example the organic olive extract in the Multiactive Day Cream, Regenerating Night Cream and Refining Eye Cream. The mark also appears on the Moisturising Concentrated Gel, the Instant Emergency Spray and the Protecting Propolis Cream.
Made in Germany: who actually makes it?
LR makes its aloe vera drinking gels itself in Ahlen, North Rhine-Westphalia, in one of Europe’s most modern production sites for aloe vera drinking gels. Many other products on this site, including colostrum, Protein Power, most supplements and the Aloe Via and Zeitgard skincare, are also marked “Made in Germany” and are produced to LR’s quality standards.
What can a seal not tell you?
A seal confirms quality, purity or sourcing. It does not mean a product will suit everyone or that it has an effect on health. The health benefits we mention on product pages are limited to the authorised nutrition and health claims for the vitamins and minerals in each product. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist before trying a new supplement.
